Overview
When evaluating, the learner makes value judgments based on criteria and standards and can they justify a position or decision they make.
Conflict and dealing with people/organisations that do not agree with you or have a counter narrative is a basic fact of life. How you deal with it is related to a multiplicity of drivers. Your personality, organisational policy, team dynamic etc. At some time in your career, you will be in a position of responsibility and you will need to have the conflict handling skills to deal with different people/organisations in various situations.
This Unit deals with cocoa exploitation by the leading Finnish company Fazer. If you synthesise Unit C2 Nokia and blood minerals, Unit C3 Stora Enso exploiting child labour, Unit C5 UPM's adventures in Fray Bentos, then the Finnish corporate landscape is rich in exploitation and injustice.
An interesting question – if those working in the cultivation of cocoa, digging for rare earth minerals or collecting wastepaper on landfills were not getting the income from their labours, even if they are children, where precisely is the family they support going to get the money for the next meal? It is all very well we in the West sit on imperious shoulders and tell others what to do, but this is no different to what the empires of yesteryear did when they expanded, the objective was the same, the means different? Has intellectual imperialism replaced military colonialism?
