Overview
The introduction is like a hook in fishing. Make it attractive with a clear structure and you will get the reader to investigate further. It is often the first thing readers look at. Make it unclear and you will already lose your audience before they start reading the body of the text.
Unit examples are from articles on the Finnish forest industry.
G.3. Reading (Look at this before doing the tasks). The Tasks and Answer Key/Pointers/Sources are in Theme H in the drop-down menu at the top of this page.
Think About:
“The average introduction to almost any book is somewhat of a bore” – Boris Karloff
"There is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct, or more uncertain in its success, than to take the lead in the introduction of a new order of things" – Niccolo Machiavelli
