Overview
The precursor to this Unit is Unit B1 which looks at a classroom interaction scenario in which expectations played a key role. Expectations are intrinsic to the maintenance or termination of relationships. When you go to the shop, start a course, go to work or a meeting, you have certain expectations. When there is divergence between expectations and reality the potential for conflict problems to emerge is enhanced.
A simple example of the potential repercussions of a difference in expectations is presented with an evaluation of the conflict problem process arising from divergent expectations.

Think About:
“Conflicts are a result of unmet expectations, which are the sources of all suffering” – Ronit Baras
“Expectation is the root of all heartache” – unknown
“We love to expect, and when expectation is either disappointed or gratified, we want to be again expecting” – Samuel Johnson
“More information is always better than less. When people know the reason things are happening, even if it’s bad news, they can adjust their expectations and react accordingly. Keeping people in the dark only serves to stir negative emotions” – Simon Sinek (and how do you get that information?)
“We don’t want people to have expectations of us, but then we have expectations of everybody else” – Lauryn Hill
