Without structure your academic paper or any paper come to think of it, your presentation if you have to give one, or your argumentation, will be weak. Invest in the structure and the collection of data and the readability of your text will be enhanced. There are basic elements to any academic structure.
This Unit examines 'structure' by drawing attention to the ‘Nordic Paradox’ – domestic violence that underlies Nordic countries, in particular Finland. The Nordic Paradox reveals a society in which sexual and domestic violence is an unnerving stain on the Finnish landscape even though it tries to elevate itself as the flag bearer of equality and female rights. 1/2024 Greater Manchester Police published their report into sexual exploitation. The results show a harrowing story of rape, sexual abuse and the complete failure of the authorities. The pattern and scale of this problem are reflected in multiple cities throughout the UK. Other communities, eg. Catholic and in Finland the Laestadian movement have been afflicted with similar problems. A BBC article highlights the key findings. The actual report can be found here. The issue became public back in 2017 when a disturbing documentary was shown, the documentary is referenced in the opening sentence of the main body of the report - The Betrayed Girls.
Yle 25.5.2023. Finnish court issues 10.5 year sentence for more than a hundred sex crimes. The lawyer representing 40 victims noted that in other countries, the perpetrator would be serving a 50 year sentence if the crimes had been added up individually. This is not done in Finland.
